INSPIRATIONAL ARCHITECT OF THE WEEK
Rear Admiral Itunu Hotonou (rtd) is described as a Woman of many
firsts. She was Born on January 18, 1959. Rear Admiral Itunu Hotonou studied
Architecture from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She undertook
her professional examinations and practiced in an architectural firm for two years prior to her joining the Nigerian Navy.
As a trained architect
and an expert in Naval logistics, she
has served in various Naval formations and in different capacities across
Nigeria. Among her many accomplishments and accolades received includes:
- She was the first female
officer to command a squadron at the Naval College
- She was also the first female military officer to attend the then
National War College, now National Defence College, where she emerged the best
overall graduating student and won the Commander-in-Chief’s prize as well as
the Commandant’s prize for the best research.
- She is the first female officer to be ranked as a Rear Admiral in
the Nigerian Navy and also achieved same feat in Africa
- She is the first Group Managing Director/CEO
of Nigeria Navy Holdings
Surprisingly, she is also married to an Architect, Arc.Abayomi Hotonu and their union is
blessed with three Children.
